JoJo Razor is a conceptual 3-D native California artist who works with glass. Feeling touch deprived after many years of creating art with video and the computer, JoJo turned her focus from the glass screen in the studio to the glass that she was finding in the street. Working with discarded liquor bottles, she created the Recovered Bottle Project.
While most of her art deals with addiction and the hell that comes with overcoming it, she is most optimistic at what she has found. While digging around in hell, she discovered the reflective shards of wisdom, insight and enchantment. As a trained alcoholigist, she has begun piecing those pieces together in a new body of art called; The Descent.
JoJo has also been involved
with music and has sung with California
bands such as Crazy
Leggs (Modesto), Hidden Secrets (Los Angeles), Johnny
Outrageous (Los Angeles), Off the Wall (Sacramento),
and Static (Bay Area). She currently performs
with VoxMaids, a local
Bay Area Duo, featuring Cynthia Weyuker
from the Punk Rock Orchestra. They
are presently writing new music, performing
and recording.
In the winter 2004, JoJo
took part in a ParaTheatrical project
and worked with one song that was chosen
from her genetic ancestry of Scotland.
Singing the same song for over three
months, she worked with a group of
9 other vocalists, combining
elements of theatre, dance, voice work
and standing Zazen meditation. Working
towards accessing and embodying the
internal landscape, their purpose was
to build a kind of personal vehicle
for expressing their song’s
mystery. This happened in solos, duets,
trios, quartets, quintets and ever-expanding
arrays of choral cacophonies.
The group recorded inside
the cavernous Marin Headlands bunkers
(2004/2005). The CD is entitled "Songs
as Vehicles, the Bunker Sessions" and
is for sale on-line.
